Should I be worried about this level of oil on my engine or is it fairly normal?

Hi
It looks pretty normal from what I have heard. Mine is like that, and it loses no oil between services at all. i have blanked off my EGR a while back with one of Allans smashing kits, and it now seems a bit more baked on, so it could be from that source?
Cheers
Helen

Mine too. When I bought it, some of the oil on the rocker cover (towards the rear, nearside) seemd fresh. So I GENTLY tightened the rocker cover nuts in that area (overtightening could distort the cover thus moving the problem and/or risking cracking it - that's how I saw it anyway). Then I gunked the area. I don't think there's been any fresh oil since.

The area round the diesel injector always looks oily, but I think that is down in most part to my slight leak on the injector oil seals. Hey ho! 8)

Thank you fellow bongoers, I am glad that I am normal to.

Mine, on the drivers side is wet with oil between the head and the block. 8-[

Is there an oil stop leak additive which works?

Don't know, shame the oil can't be directed to spray on the rear wheel arches

Think you will find most of it comes from the EGR and in fact not the oil system.

It's almost like looking at pictures of my own engine. I tend to wipe at it everyttime i'm in there for something but it seems to like being there and keeps coming bacvk over time.

Looks just like mine, and again I've never had to top up between services.

My reply reads much the same as helen&tony's... The oil looked fresh for years, blanked the E.G.R,then the oil dried up. All was still clear the last time i looked.
