Bongo Fury

Getting some load and heavy judder when accelerating at from near stationary speed especially if fullish lock. All smooth and OK otherwise in a straight line.Went to a nearby garage (tyre and suspension place really) who by their own admission know nowt about bongos-though suspected rear diff gone after finding no suspension problems.
What are best/worse case scenarios?
Am Southport based and have another van to use so could park it for a while if I need to track down part/s.Not at all techie so will be a garage job.

Get it to Wheelquick and let them diagnose it I'd say. Diffs come up on Bongo scrappies and on ebay etc. but probably best let them deal with that side of it if they are happy to. Good luck - keep us posted

Hard to say. One came up on ebay recently and didn't even get offers (it was a limited slip diff too, just to add insult to injury!), which suggests not many are failing (yet!) and/or there's a plentiful supply from breaking Bongos (though transport costs will up the price if not one local). If you bought new then gosh yes, I reckon it could be pricey.

I'm no expert, but I would think for a properly equipped garage used to Bongos (i.e. Wheelquick) it is actually not a complex job, apart from the possibility of having to tackle the dreaded rusty nuts disease.

Wheelquick are well placed to both source a diff from a scrappie (though no harm in looking yourself) and to fit it, and we're told time and time again they don't fleece Bongo owners - they are really good guys. And they know the Bongo as well as anyone around. So I'd go down that route as the best option. I don't think it would need to be too dear, and you should be able to trust them if labour charges end up looking high - it will have been an unavoidable difficulty encountered during the job.

I'm definitely with Mike here, Wheelquick have a first class reputiation on here, so don't even think about paying a garage who don't know Bongos to start experimenting while you pay.

Is it an LSD? I had a similar problem, replaced the oil and all is now OK.
