Help please

Hi there could anyone out there give us the correct name for the top hose under the drivers seat that runs from the cylinder head to a metal pipe, then to the top hose on the radiator.
i have added a link for a picture of the old leaking hose...if it works !

Bongo Fury member Flippa sells these hoses made of Silicone on ebay, or you can PM him directly. I have a set of his silicone hoses on my Bongo (as have a few others) and consider them to be superior to the Mazda originals. You are given a choice of colours, mine are blue.

Wow where's the tray thingy? :shock: under my engine it's dark as hell, lost loads 'o' stuff in there :oops: :lol:

and sparkymik, ah we have one too! but have just taken it off to see where the "flood" was coming from :wink:

Be sure you know how to bleed the cooling system when you have fitted the new one. It is not strightforward and if not done correctly could cost a lot.

Yep thats the next problem :cry: we have been reading other posts on the subject and as you say it does not sound at all easy, but we will read them all again (very carefully) we are just hoping no major damage has been done already as we drove it from southampton- home to cornwall and found water leeking and nothing left in the header tank! btw temp gauge showed normal. :shock:

Hi Scooter Crazy just did the exact same hose last week, that was the easy part putting the new coolant in was a right b*****d. Better when there are two of you doing it.

Hi all
quick update... new hose fitted, thank you very much Flipper!
new thermostat, a service and oil change.

And then ....The dreaded "Bleeding"
After reading and re-reading the posts on the subject we tackled that today,we used Haydns method and all seemed to be ok.
Temp correct- bottom hose warm- but not hot?
the only thing we are not sure about is the header tank, it is hot -very hot, should it be?
we took bongo for a spin and the coolent in the tank had only gone down a small amount.

Yes....header tank very hot is good.
Bottom hose should have been almost as hot once the stat opened.. I would do it again...It can take up to 40 mins to Rev/Idle/Rev/Idle before the bottom suddenly gets hot. At this point the stat has finally opened and trapped air will purge out.
If you don't do this you may end up like the Bongo in Italy going up a hill on a hot day and his stat opened and it caused him problems as trapped air was ejected via the header tank..
The stat on our Bongo hardly ever opens co's the wife drives it and it is never pushed to the point the stat opens.
When the stat opens you cannot grip the bottom hose for more than a couple of sec's
We have driven 150 miles towing a c'van and the stat did not open once. This is fine but one day it will and if it hasn't been bled properly you are in deep dodah.
I belive there are quite a few Bongos running happily around just waiting to burp. When they do and it is not noticed very quickly. problems occur very quickly.
\when bleeding..the stat often finally opens during a idle period as the heat builds up.
