Looking Ahead To 2009: Tough Northerners
We intend to hold the "Tough Northerners" event over the weekend of March 13th. Originally we were going to hold this in North Lincolnshire, but our chosen campsite is unwilling to take more than 15 of us. So we are now turning our attention elsewhere.
I quite fancy the Nortumberland coast. Can anyone recommend a site which meets the following criteria?
a) Must be open mid March
b) At least 25 electric hook ups, and room for a further 10 non-electric Bongos.
c) Allows dogs and children
d) Walking distance to a good pub!

love northumberland i learnt to swim there in the sea near bamburgh - not that i,ll be repeating that little excercise in march -I doubt the boats will be running then but a trip to the farne islands is great fun.
site looks good muz
we camped at this one http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/detai ... revid=2991 before bongo days two points in its favour for march and northumberland
1 there is a clubhouse where you can get reasonably priced hot food
2 It is in a reasonably shelterd spot -not that us tough northerners care about that.

The only down-side to the Beachcomber Stables site is that it definitely doesn't fulfill Ian's requirement (d).
We'll have a look in a few days and report back. The Haggerston Castle site looks nice but isn't cheap and won't take tents.

We stopped here http://www.proctorsstead.co.uk/index.htm last year. Nice site and I think it meets Ian's requirements.
We walked down the road to a nice pub where we had a good meal and there's more in Craster itself.
Regards Grahame

We have stayed at Proctors Stead about 3 Junes ago pre Bongo and would agree it should meet all Ian's criteria (except its not quite got views of the sea but certainly no great walking distance away) and the pub food was good. It (the pub) would need a check for the number of people it would fit and I note the camp site is closed till Aug 17th at present due to flooding (seasonal I think).
I note it advertises as open 17 March to October.......

I've never been to any of the sites mentioned but quite like the look of Muz's suggestion. I'm happy anywhere, as long as I can sit and knit.

If the nit wits can knit, then we'll have a great time. If anyone wants knitting or crochet lessons, you only have to ask. It will keep your hands busy, so you don't have to keep fiddling with your Bongos.Bob wrote:You might be sitting with some right nit wits.

i think they enjoy fiddling with their bongos and each others too.
