The garage that’s servicing my freda told me that some of the oil filters are poor quality, can anyone advise me where to obtain a good one?.
Cheers Clive

There is only one oil filter isn't there?, any motor factor, the club shop, take your pick. If they're doing a service surely they'd have factored in a filter change? Check for snake oil on the bill & take it elsewhere next time IMO

Hi
I said I would source the filters.
He said some of the imported filters are crap and not made to original manufactures standards.
But if the club ones are ok thats great.
Thanks

Aah, sorry, misunderstood you, sounded like you were saying they'd found poor quality filters while servicing it

I got mine from the local auto spares place I think. There was an iffy batch floating around a while ago I think.

Some of the cheap ones don't have a non-return valve fitted, so oil runs out of it when old Bongy is stood for a while. This will lead to premature engine wear, especialy if you leave it stood for several days at a time, like I do. Not such a prob if you drive it several times a day.

Hi ns400r,
as Bob said, some filters dont have nrv in them,if you look at the filter (series of holes) you will see a black disc behind the surface. This is the none return valve.
Ps most filters also have a Dump valve fitted, this allows the flow of oil to be maintained in the event of surge or blockage etc.(like a by-pass valve)
Your mechanic was correct.
Mal.
