Bongo Fury

My temp gauge dose not work. Without me taking the instrument cluster out and looking dose anyone know off the top of their head if I can replace the temp gauge as a single item or would the fuel gauge need to be replaced with it, or would the whole cluster require replacement

Mine neither,very tempermental,goes upto 11 o'clock then stops working !
I've checked the engine temp sensor but no luck,hope you have more luck
than me mate.

Gert...they all go up to 11o'clock and hopefully no further. If it ever does go higher you have problems.
It's one of the strange things about Bongos..thats just the way it is....I have a digital add on temp gauge.
When the Bongo gauge first reaches 11o'clock the temp reads 50 oC...when it reaches 105oC it is still at 110'clock. Pretty useless really.

you can buy a mason alarm to fit your temp guage, then you will see it move like it should do. after mine was fitted (£27) the temp guage goes to about 1 oclock the moves about depending on how hard the drive is.

Yes the Mason alarm makes the standard gauge move more accurately and beeps if the temperature passes a pre-set level - you can adjust the trigger point yourself.

Well worth it.

That's where the problem started. I fitted a Mason Alarm as per the fitting instructions that came with the alarm. After fitting the gauge went up as far as it would go into the hot zone and stayed there. I removed the alarm now it doesn't work at all. This was some time ago and I lost the fitting instructions so when I had an Auto Electrician fit my coolant alarm I asked on the site for the fitting instructions for the Mason Alarm to show him to see if there was anything he could do. The fitting instructions shown on here where slightly but obviously importantly different.

be sure to use dave's AMENDED fitting instructions so that you dont damage the temperature gauge.

looks like you may have broken the small wire from behind the temp guage when you took the alarm off.
it may be possible to fix if your a dab hand with a soldering iron.

Sometimes when I tap the dashboard the gauge jumps to life going from left ( Cold ) to right ( Hot ) and stays there, so there is some kind of life there. However if it is kaput and need to replace the gauge what are the options.

tapping the gauge does sound like the wire intermittently touching then parting slightly, the gauges can be changed ,they come up on evil bay now and then, or ask a bongo breakers for a gauge.

Hi Haydn,the prob is the temp gauge hardly ever works,when it does it works for
a short time.I will be getting it fixed and have no probs since my coolant /rad flush.
My Bongo seems to always run cool ?!
Could be a first.......
