Rear Lighter Socket Wiring

OK pride comes before a fall I boasted last month that my Waeco cool box (12V/240) worked for days on the leisure battery from rear socket with no problems.
Well now there is. The fuse went in yesterdays heat. Luckily my shopping was just OK. I have read that the wiring is not up to this loading.
So please what do I have to do to upgrade the socket?
Thanks

It's not so much the socket but the wiring that needs upgrading. I, along with a number of others have rewired it with thicker cable. I've run mine through to a switch on the dash which then connects via a 15a fuse and then onto the leisure battery.

I suppose it's only a matter of time before mine goes pop too then....
I too have run my coolbox for days on end with no problems...I don't want to tempt fate, but it would seem i'm on borrowed time?
I can't believe i didn't upgrade it when i had all the panels off!
I guess it was a case of "don't fix what ain't broke"....yet.

It depends on the 'draw' from whatever device you connect to it. The standard gauge cable is pretty feeble though.

Thanks for answers Veg and Daddy. I'll replace the fuse to get by for now.
I have the willinton kit. What cable should I get for the rear socket?
Then to save me some time where does wiring run? Would it be possible to tie new cable onto old and pull through? Cheers

It's a while since I did mine but I think I put in 17a cable protected by a 10a fuse.
