Hi,just looking around engine bay this evening and notice that there seems to be a belt missing!!!!wondered if anyone knows what it may be?ill describe the best i can but im afraid i havent figured out how to post pictures on here yet!??
there are two belts next to each other from the alternator etc and im assuming that there are two as one is prob a back-up/load sharer?guess all is fine there but there seems to then be another alternator type unit infront of that with a large wheel on it and below the other belts another wheel where im assuming the belt attaches?!any ideas what it is and what im missing out on??!!
sorry for c**p description, hope someone figures out what im talking about!!
thanks!!!

you dont say which engine you have, but on my diesel i would expect to find belts for alternator, water pump together and air con on the other possibly.
does your air con work(if fitted)

sorry its the 2.5 diesel, come to think of it the air con didnt seem to be working the other day, think you may have cracked it!!!any idea why it may have been removed or is it likely to have snapped and not been replaced prior to me owning it??if i just fit a new belt should all be ok or is there more to it??
thanks,chris

Yes !! it's your air con compressor belt and it may have been removed co's of a fault...to save fuel...or just snapped. Fit a new one and see what happens.

if it was working previously then maybe it snapped and fell off!

If the aircon belt has snapped before you replace it check what condition the alternator belts are in as if they look past their best it will be worth replacing them as well as you have to remove the aircon belt to replace them - why do the job twice when you can do it once. :)

Also, could be aircon compressor is knackered. No point fitting new belt only to wreck it. Can healthy aircon compressors be easily turned over by hand, as a check?

There's a Bongo aircon compressor on ebay right now.

Hi
Yes, you can turn the aircon pulley by hand, but if you find that when you turn the aircon. on, and it makes a noise and strains the car's engine when it's running, then the internal valve arrangement is duff....check it out quickly as Mike says, and dive on that e-bay example
Cheers

thanks everyone, the air-con compressor can be turned easily by hand and there doesnt seem to be any starange noises coming from it,also the alternator belts look fine..almost new in fact :? :?
does anyone know of a cross-match part for the air-con belt?is it the same as the b500 or ranger belt?
thanks again!

I've just picked up another spare an hour ago, try "Gates 6470mc" as a easily sourced belt from any motorfactors, the ref can be crossed too with other makes, no problem. It'll only be a few quid (mine was £4.90 + vat!). It is an easy job to replace too.
