Hi all, im new here and just got a new bongo. its a new shape 99 model.
im going to fit the mph speedo face today, is a FAQ for removing the original kicking about? cant seem to find it. i've got the plastic facia off the dials, but dont want to break the pin removing it!
also i've seen on some bongo parts suppliers they sell an electronic speedo converter (
http://www.bongobits.com/Main.asp?PageN ... Product=52) do i need this as well? i assumed it was only for bongos with a digital speed read out?
Many thanks
Ian

Hi IanC
99 New Shape....very nice. How about posting some pictures of the beast? Welcome - if it's Bongo related then you have come to the right place......if it's general banter you're after then this lot are the most boring people you will ever meet, so RUN.......GO!
As far as the speedo, I believe that all Bongo's read in Kilometers not MPH, so the chip will convert. Most people just stick an over-sticker on the speedo and put up with the mileage clock reading kilometers.
Could be wrong though

Hi Majorbloodnock,
thanks, its going to get a full camper conversion in the coming weeks done by myself and a professional cabinet maker.
thats great, so for those who dont want to dismantle the clocks can just make the needle read mph, i have the mph/kph speedo facia and am happy with it reading kilometers for the odometer. i have disasembled the clocks but cant seem to get the needle off the motor shaft, im worried that ill break it!
ill get some pictures up soon, its the dark metalic blue with the silver bottom section, done 60k miles.
Thanks

I couldn't get my speedo needle off either, no matter how many teaspoons I tried

I just cut through the new face and threaded it around the needle.

odometer, that's the word I was looking for
Loads on here about conversions. Your best bet is to use the search facility and put as many words in there that you can think of in connection to your question

hi all,
the needle does come off carefully, take the cap off first but be careful not to lose the two little weights then carefully ease the needle off. however, the centerpin will move so the speedo will have to be reset. maj bloodknocks idea is the easiest.
cheers

thanks for everyones help.
i ended up getting the needle off by removing the 2 screws which hold the dial and the plastic backing plate onto the speedo unit, this gave me enough room to get a small screwdriver inside and push the needle off the shaft, as apposed to pulling it off (the plastic is so thin i thought it would break off)
The fit of the facia i got from bongo bits wasnt a very good fit, all the holes (needle 0mph stop, 2x screw holes and the centre raised section) needed making bigger, i used a drill but be careful, the drill will catch and snag on the plastic if you go too fast.
all refitted (with the little weights

) and looks spot on. you can tell its been replaced as the plastic is also very slightly darker than the gauges wither side, but its not really something you can notice.
i reset the speedo by starting the engine, and then fitting the needle, seems to work fine.
Thanks
Ian
