speedo

Hi. New to all this. Really enjoyed our first bongo bash at Stourport. I have a faulty speedo which works when it feels like it. Fluctuates particulary at high speed then goes down to zero and stays there unti it sees fit to start working again. Any ideas out there.
Cheers :?
The speedo reads in mph and was working fine for the first four months I had my bongo. Was a gradual thing, first flickering slightly up and down, then large fluctuations and then not working at all for long periods. :?

Thanks to all who responded. Would thank you individually if I knew how.
Spoke to John (francophile) at Kings Lynn and he had a look at my speedo. Apparently it is a chipped speedo with dial going up to 180 (km/h). John suggested a 626 speedo replacement but I have noticed on ebay "delimiter chips" for £20. Could I not just replace that part?
Cheers
Dave

Has it been chipped to read in MPH?

Stick your location on your profile - click on "user control panel " top right. Someone local to you may be able to assist :D

Sounds like your speedo is chipped - mine was and was reluctant to work under 20 mph - fitted a 626 speedo a year ago and had no problems since. :)

I noticed that mine, on a couple of occasions, when driving slowly in traffic, whizzed up to about 80mph and back again to whatever i was doing in the first place. Now if it was a cable speedo then i would suspect a worn out cable but these are electronic aren't they?
Anyone else get this?

DB - do you have a speedo chip by any chance, as erratic behaviour is a common problem.

A 'chipped' speedo will normally have the original kmh face, but either a sticker over saying mph, or the k blacked out. There will only be one set of numerals round the outside 0- 180.
To achieve this, an electronic chip is screwed to the back of the speedo and associated wires- they have been known to affect the rev counter, speedo and hold light.
If your speedo shows kmh and mph then its likely to have been a speedo face swap, and the oddometer will still be in km - this does not involve a chip.

There was a batch of dodgey chips knocking around about 4 ro 5 years back, there was a handfull of problems on bongo fury on a daily basis at one stage! It would appear that there is the odd one or two "new old stock" chips still knocking about... :?

Yes, i have the First scenario. Where there differing problems or all the same with these chips?. I have never noticed the hold light coming on or any problems with the rev counter. Just those couple of occasions in slow traffic (5 to 10mph) on tickover in Drive, where the speedo whizzed up to about 80 then back again (all within about half a second)

That sounds like a dodgy chip, ours did that and the hold light flashed- 626 speedo cured the problem
