Clunking noise somewhere near the back?

Hi,
Just bought our first Bongo - everything's tickety-boo apart from a bit of a clunking noise coming from somewhere near the back when we go over rough ground. Dosen't sound too serious but just niggles after a while. Any ideas what it could be please, and how to get it sorted?
Thanks.
Simon.

Anti roll bar bushes & brackets and/or droplinks, loads of threads on them, relatively easy & cheap to do, you should be able to buy the lot for front & back for under £100, a couple of hours max to do them, just make sure you soak the nuts in penetrating oil before hand. Even if the brackets look ok personally I'd replace them, I had two anti roll bar brackets snap completely within 6 weeks of each other, a few months after replacing the bushes. Save yourself the headaches & change them all at once IMO. Welcome by the way

Hi
Check that your spare is nice and snug.
Usual cause of clunking is either the droplinks, or rear roll-bar bushes...usually a good idea to replace both....easy job to do

Mine was even easier and cheaper to sort out. A small amount of play in the tailgate made a big amount of rattling noise. A bit of adjustment and noise was gone.

Hi Phil, and welcome, glad it's sorted...There seems to be a lot of rattling tailgates of late!

Good to see another E. Yorks Bongo as they've been a bit thin on the ground round there but more starting to appear on the scene. Makes the mutual support network stronger for if/when (heaven forbid) trouble strikes, help needed etc.

H there, yes get them links sorted, club or e-bay. If it still clunks, clonks after, check the misses.
What's the difference between a clunk and a clonk

Lizard - I am wondering if we can get a sound diagnostic database established then we might be able to communicate more exactly what we mean by clunk or clonk! Folks with a problem could record the sound (mobile phone?) and this could be converted to an audio file. Then other folks who recognise the sound and discovered what it meant could post supporting comments. Gradually we would be able to convey to each other (and particularly the generous experts on this site) precisely what we hear.
If we can design a suitable modus operandi then Ian could be asked if the web host can handle it - if not I have access to a domain and would see if it could be added to that.
Ron
ps Adverse comments are welcome too!

Hi all
Thanks for all the help - it was the droplinks on the rollbar. Needed two on the back and one on the front, covered under the warrenty so all fine now.
Thanks again
