Solenoid error 61

Hi all,
I have experienced the dreaded flashing hold! I was driving on the motorway when the revs shot up and it went in to what i now know is ''safe mode''. I drove to a petrol station and stopped. The flashing hold didn't appear once i restarted and the bongo went fine. However, i didn't get over say 30mph cos i was, by that point, on urban roads. I haven't driven the car since (this happened on Sunday). I checked the diagnostics using the factsheet on the members area (great facility) and the code was 61 = Shift solenoid 'B'. Does this mean getting the whole solenoid pack like I've read for code 62 (overrunning clutch solenoid)? I'm in the Bristol area so would also greatly appreciate any recommendations on where I should get it fixed?
Many thanks in advance
Tom

Hi Tom,
Sorry to hear you've got the dreaded flashing hold light. Intermittantly, I have the same problem, code 61 and having had the solenoid pack changed it has'nt fixed the problem. In my case I'm pretty sure it's an electrical connection somewhere between the ECU and gearbox. I'm studying the wiring diagrams tonight working out how to test my favourite theory that the fault is in the cabling that goes through the gearbox casing to the solenoids (already checked the rest of it).
Can't recommend a gearbox specialist in Bristol but I don't think it is a difficult job to change the solenoids so you shouldn't have any trouble finding someone to do it.
Good luck and let us know how you get on.
Jes.

Hi Tom
If it turns out you need the solenoid pack, i would highly recommend these guys. I rang round a couple of places when looking for my overrun clutch solenoid pack and they were the cheapest. Excellent service and quick delivery too.

Hope you get it sorted soon

Might be worth sticking that info on the compatible parts database -
http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... =3&t=14881 , then we don't have to go looking for it when it crops up again

Thanks for the replies guys!
I was just wondering again if anyone knows of anywhere around Bristol that would be recommended to take a look?
Thank you!
Tom

Thanks for that guys.
Bongoman - I look forward to hearing how you get on at Bellhill garage! good luck and keep me posted. I guess I will take my van there when i have the time!
Thanks for the link. Lose screw or chip problem sounds cheaper than the solenoid replacement possibility!
My speedo reads in MPH but I thought it was just a sticker over the front of the previous speedo...i'll have to have a closer inspection.
I've driven the car a total of 3 times now since the hold light was flashing. It hasn't happpened again. All 3 times I have gone in to top gear butI'm still scared to take it on any long motorway drive incase it happens again...
I think I need to change the ATF since I seem to improve gear changes by taking my foot off the gas. Is this a sign that something is wrong with the ATF?
Thanks again for advice and help. This forum really is a great source of info.
Tom
