Electric Windows again!

OK - i have just been all through the forum looking for "electric windows" and their faults and know it is probably the cables between the door and the door post. Before i start hacking these apart i wondered several things

1. Mine is odd in that it is the passenger window and it will not work from either switch.

2. I have taken the passenger switch to pieces completely and it looks OK [cleaned off loads of carbon]. Still does not work.

3. Big black wire seems to have power in it in the passenger door.

4. I have applied 12v to the window cables directly and the window goes up and down OK

5. Is there some link cable that could have gone between the drivers switch and the passenger switch that would have knocked them both out?

How it happened: Wife got in the car [passenger side] late at night and we drove off from friends. She lowered window to say goodbye and it would not go up again. So therefore it went in the down position. Door was not being opened at the time.
It took some prat from the RAC [subbie] 2 hours to try and fix it - he wanted to try and GRIP the window and lift it! i could hear it being torn from its mounts. In the end i took off the door panel and released the motor from its location and the window was then liftable. Got to bed at 4am!

You haven't just knocked the switch on the drivers side which switches the passenger window off, have you?

I loved your postings nikita9, really made me chuckle - Muz beat me to it with the answer but its happened so many times before. And the big question is, what naffing use is that button that switches the pasenger one off anyway!?!?!

Try not to murder the missus. You'd end up inside and unable to drive the Bongo. And that would be sad  8)

Presume it is to stop hitch hikers trying to climb out of the window whilst in motion.... Many try once they have experienced my driving!

Or it could be to stop my wife winding her window down to ask for directions.

Any man knows you do not need directions. You just keep driving......... You must be right even if you drive 50 miles in a full circle to come back to the other end of the same street!!

Columbus didn't need directions or a map - why should we?

If Columbus did have a sat nav and it was like mine, he would have found Australia, (maybe he should have come to think of it). [-X

It's easy done nakita...I'm sure that plenty on here have done exactly the same thing, and not admitted it.... :-" :-" :-"

The next favourite blunder is calling out auto electrician's cos the roof won't lift/close...then they discover the handbrake isn't applied! #-o

Mike? I reckon the lock switch for the passenger window is for the benefit of messing kids, with their straying fingers....
