Hi Iam thinking of using my offside reversing lamp as a fog lamp.I was thinking of taking a feed off the rear side light to a switch on the dash (illuminated). Then back to the reversing light holder, and fitting a red bulb.Would this be feasable. 1995 2.5d

Same here - I just tapped into fuse number 7 for the power supply.

Hi John,I dont intend using fuse as I will be taking a live feed from rear tail light.

I didn't use an extra fuse, I just tapped into the wire from fuse 7 that feeds the rear blinds. You need a lot less wire and it goes off with the ignition.

That the reason that I am taking a feed from the rear side light as the fog will go out with the side lights..

the fog light should only work with the headlights on, not the sidelights, so a feed from the back from the side lights is not legal.

The Japanese have the right idea just ban the bl**dy things completely.
I reckon they are a major cause of pile-ups because most drivers just don't know when to use them properly.

our car, an altea, has a twist light switch, and you pull for fog lights, one pull is rear fogs, pull again for fronts.....
but when driving in fog with front fog lights on the dipped beam is best off anyway, so as not to blind you in the fog (assuming you use the front fog lights correctly and not as additional driving lights

).... so surely you can put the fog lights on when on side lights?
I've checked the van, and that only works the rear fog on main lights..... but the car is at work with Lucy.... so it's all speculation really, and as I've only used the fog lights once, to check they worked for MOT... it's not a huge issue......
I did use my rear fog light in a car once though, it was above 1991.... but a car caught me up in the fog, so I turned it off

and the rear fog on the bongo gets used when reversing!
I'll check in the morning

hi John not sure about your car ,but you cannot turn your dipped beam headlights off on a motorway and just have spots, that is illegal. you have to have dipped headlights on and not just sidelights on a motorway by law. so i think most vehicle spots are connected to the dipped beam headlights so as not to break this motorway law.

ok..... sort of makes sense
and it's not like we get fog down here anyway
just I do remember being up near Alton towers in a mates car years back, and the dipped beam was blinding us in the fog.....it took hours to get where we were going

Like i said most cars ,or all modern cars now, so maybe some older model cars did not have this feature.
