Bongo Fury

Hi. Can anyone offer any advice on how I might be able to drain the fuel tank of my 2.5L Bongo Friendee? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I suppose I have to confess why I want to drain the fuel. Like an idiot, I accidentally pumped 13L of Unleaded Petron into the tank on Friday. I realised my mistake and immediately filled the tanke with diesel under the impression that the petrol (being lighter than diesel) would remain at the top of the tank. (Maybe foolish but kinda logical). I used the car whilst touring Kerry all weekend and have had no issues yet (touch wood). Does anyone think that if I am going to have problems, I should have had them by now or is it likely that I will still have problems? I have used over a tank of fuel since the "accident" and the car appears to be running fine. Please let mw have your thoughts.

Just keep topping up with diesel - people have driven them with more than 13 litres of petrol in

Leave well alone, it should be fine, probably given it a good clean through though, did it go any faster?

My other half pretty much filled ours with unleaded a week or two back.

The only practical way to drain it was taking the line from the fuel filter & pumping out from there.

She is now forgiven but had hell to pay for quite a while!

I'm with the others here, almost filling it with petrol is a problem, but if you've used a tankful forget it.

Not to worry zimbo...Plenty of hauliers used to put petrol in with the diesel on trucks years ago, to stop the fuel from waxing in freezing temps. As mentioned earlier, top up with diesel as often as possible,it'll soon work it's way through...

If you're REALLY bothered, just siphon the tank.
Dispose of the unwanted fuel carefully (down the drain in the road )....NO...don't dispose of it that way

Zimbo - we could decant it straight into my tank - if you lived nearer!!

Seriously - I put about £50's worth of petrol in mine last year on the way to the Bongo Bash - the first I realised was when I had to get off at the next junction because it had no power!

It coasted to a halt on a roundabout - and it cost me £170 to have it recovered and pumped out - and that was AS an AA member!! Hasn't missed a beat since - so don't worry about it.

One of the joys of having an older style diesel engined vehicle.
