Coming off the M6 on way home from the bash we stopped at the top of the sliproad only to see clouds of whitish smoke coming from the exhaust. Had been running ok on the m/way,temp ok. let it cool down, did quick check, no leeks, no major coolant loss. Still had 25 miles to go, everything seemed ok untill I had to slow right down or stop, then clouds and clouds of smoke. Dropped Dot off and unloaded, set off about an hour later to do another 33 miles home, took it easy and it ran smoothyly with no loss of power but still plumes of smoke at lights. Any ideas ??

sounds like the oil seals on the valve stems in the head.

Is it definitely smoke alan? Could it be steam?

Check the usual suspects, coolant level, inside the oil cap for mayonnaise, water droplets on the dipstick...etc.

Whip the air filter off whilst checking alan, is it very dirty? If so, take the bongo for a quick test run with filter removed, (but lid clipped back into place) If there is an improvement, order a replacement filter, either a standard one, or a K&N...

From what I remember white smoke is possibly more to do with water as Ste says as if the smoke was blueish then it would suggest oil as Max suggests.
