has anyone got experience of removing the front left driveshaft from the diff.
trying to decide if its a job i can do myself-the bearing is on its way out and the hub is seized together(i know this because we had the gaiters changed a few months back and the mechanic was unable to separate the hub).
any hints or tips appreciated.

Are you saying the diff bearing is on its way out rob??

If it's the outer hub bearing you're talking about then you're going to have to remove the complete lower strut assembly and use a press to get the shaft out of the hub if it's seized - a 10 ton one might do the job, more than that and you might start to mash the end of the shaft :?

The inner bearing race will probably need to be ground down in a grinder an chiselled off the hub after pressing the hub off the hub carrier.

The driveshafts are kept into the diff and hubs by snap rings - you should be able to "shock" the outer CV off the driveshaft with a brass drift and hammer. If you're taking the driveshaft out of the diff then be careful not to dismantle the inner plunge joint - it can get damaged. The inner driveshaft joint is also held in by a snap ring - lever and shock it out.
