Elivating Roof Problems

has anybody had a problem with the elevating roof? When i raise my roof it makes quite a groaning noise and as it gets higher it starts to judder quite badly. I took it to the garage from where i bought it and they sprayed it with w.d.40 but it has not cured the problem. I wondered if there was one or maybe two motors to raise the roof and if so where do they live. If there are two I thought one may have packed up and as it is still under warranty I could get it sorted. The garage are very good in general but if I could go with a bit of knowledge up my sleeve it may help.. So anybody got any ideas.please.

mine does the same I have sprayed grease everywhere i can see but still judders
a couple of weeks ago on a weekend away having raised and lowered a few times to drive away it stopped
but came back
Would be interested to see if some one has cured this

Give the strut rods and all the guide channels a good clean with white sprite. Then get a spray can of "white grease"(lithiham) from Halfords. Give everything a careful spray.
Always have the engine running when opening the roof....next time it is up....unzip the canvas sides and roll/ velcro them up....this makes it much easier for the motors to operate.
Should now be o.k. when you have operated the roof a few times.

We keep our canvas sides un zipped seems to solve the problem

Thanks to hayden and others for the advice I am going to France tomorrow for a month and wont be using the roof whilst away but as soon as I return I will try your suggestions and let you know the result thanks again for your advice,

Hi,
Haydn is correct. Also when you are doing the cleaning/regreasing, look carefully at how it all works, there is more than one channel on each side with rollers etc on it, make sure you do them all on both sides.

Sorry Haydn, i had to point this out
Use white spirit to clean the parts. The fizzy stuff in the can will be no use at all and will only make things sticky, which will make the situation worse

A good clean of the struts and a spray with a silicone
based polish helped ours no end, also undoing the zips.

On the subject of elevating roofs, my roof alarm is now peeping the whole time the engine is running. The only time it stops is when it is fully erected (careful).
When lowered, it seems to lock correctly (at least from the sound, it seems to click in as it did previously). I've raised and lowered it a number of times, no change. We did connect with a branch in the narrow Devon lanes, and there is a little daylight showing where the tent joins the roof on the top left corner, but everything else seems OK.
Any ideas, anyone?

Sounds as though the micro switch is not being compressed enough.
Get up on a step ladder and you will find the switch. Bend it up a bit or put a sticky pad on the roof seal so it presses the switch.
