Problem with HOLD light

Hi, We have just got our first Bongo and have no problems with it apart from the hold light. I have read the fact sheets on the hold light and still am a bit in the dark.
The hold light comes on and stays on sometimes when we are driving on hilly roads (not so good when you live in the Lake District!). Can any-one advise what the problem is? I am guessing that the hold function should not come on automatically??
Thanks for your help.

Doesn't sound right. Was it bought from a dealer? They should address this if so. Doesthe HOLD ligth flash, and if so in any specific sequence as these are 'coded' and can be analysed to identify fault type

sounds strange
I know this may sound daft but do you keep your hand on the selecter while driving?
I do
is it possible that your thumb is knocking the button by accident? and the hills are just there anyway
often the simplest solutions are the correct ones and all that

and does your speedo work when the hold light comes on? A common problem if the speedo has been chipped to read miles instead of km. Search the archives as there have been many threads on this, get more info about when it happens and what the symptoms are and come back to us.

Where abouts in the lakes are you?
I could possibly give it the once over if you are not too far away.
cheers

Thanks for all your comments...
We got the bongo from a private ad. So can not take it back to a dealership unfortunitly.
The speedo does work while the hold light is on, however the rev counter does not.
H - We live in Penrith, would be great to meet up with some-one who knew a bit about the Bongo, as I must say we don't know too much!
Thanks again - I will watch out for the problem again and keep a better eye on symptoms etc. to post again.

Does the hold light flash? or stay lit?
from a search it apears it may be the throtle positioning sensor or a bad electrical connection
The following link is the search I did there are a few threads with similar problems
http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... r++%2Bhold++
I would start with the contact cleaner first
good luck

Hi BDO
If you can hang on for a few weeks you could come down to Crooklands near J36 and meet some of the Northwest crew at my birthday bash/Lakeland Rose Show weekend on 11th - 13th July.
There will be quite a few other experienced bongo owners there...see NW section or Fancy meeting up for details.
Penrith is a bit out of my normal range (and my delivery area...I use the bongo daily as a delivery van) but I wouldn't be averse to popping up your way if I can find the time. Trouble is I don't have a lot of spare time at this time of year.
Maybe a meet up on the A6 between Kendal & Shap?
cheers
H

On the surface, it appears the speedo chip may be at fault.

We had the same problem and as Bigdaddy states the speed chip was the cause, our symptoms were the hold light coming on and the speedo behaving very erratically

I believe there was a batch of bad un's from years back, that re-surface in stock at various importers every now and again...
