Bongo Fury

Hi

Halfway home from the airport last night the lights went out!

Main beam still works if you pull the stalk towards you but not in the 'permanent on' position pushed away.

Have checked fuses this morning, and confirm that the one I think is the 'main' lights is ok - if I take it out the main beam won't come on. Bulbs also look OK.

Side lights, indicators, fog light all OK.

Any clues?

I would say the stalk is at fault if the beams are still working on the flash. but i am no expert.

Before going down the new stalk route, it could be a loose connection block on the stalk under the steering cowl?
..just a thought.

I would go for the connector block under the steering wheel. I was taking Freda for the MOT and having a last check before driving to test station and no headlights. cancelled the test and after working around pulled the connector apart and plugged back in a lights. Passed test and no problem since.

I saw one of these for sale on E-bay if ya needs one grab it, before you know what I think it was in Car Parts and search for Bongo

You haven't wired in any fog or spot lights directly to the switch (without relay)at some time have you MC? This could cause the switch/stalk to go into meltdown

I think there is a relay under the bonnet - do you hear a click from that area when you go thru the various switch positions?

Thanks for all the suggestions. Will have another closer look at the stalk and realys tomorrow morning - should be still time to take the 'new' arm route if necessary.

Have tracked down the problem - one of the relays - just need to get hold of a replacement now - H270

So in the meantime, I can either have headlights and no sidelights (front or rear), or sidelights and no headlights - any ideas whish the police prefer? Or is it swap working relays at dawn and dusk?

I managed to get a H270 from Ebay(U.S.A) for just over £5 delivered, but there's always bongos being broken for spares on ebay, so should be plenty of these relays around? worth posting in the "wanted, free stuff" section?

Just a thought, i have sourced a few leccy bits from a Mazda 626.
They would other wise be pricey fer a Bongo..

See if the relay matches up, you might get lucky...!

First evening out in my Bongo (only had since Fri) and I have exactly the same problem......sidelights only!

On basis that this thing went through it's MOT very recently I can only assume that either something has gone astray during camper conversion or that something has gone 'pop' since.

Any pointers on how to check / narrow down this one......not too much experience with car electrics and seller (trade) is over 300 miles away so can't return for repair!

On mine, on the right hand side under the bonnet - next to the leisure battery tray - are four rubber covered relays. The two furthest from the front control the lights - as both are the same, I moved my problem by swapping the connections over. Still not got a replacement relay yet, but will post here when I do.
