Hi everyone, just bought a Bongo with intentions using it on my hols. Not very mechanical minded but would like to pose a question.Currently my bongo drives very well,no problems what so ever. But on familarising myself with it i noticed looking in from from driver side at the engine i can see some oil deposits around 2 bolts at opposite ends of what i think is the exhaust manifold ? not sure.No oil dripping onto the ground and it does not seem to be affecting the oil level when checking the dip stick on the other side.Does anyone have any ideas ?

hi and welcome, from the description it could be the rocker cover gasket weeping(not uncommon)which you may be able to cure by checking tightening the bolts.
also it could be gunge from the the egr system.try a search on the topic and you will find lots of info.
hope this helps

exaust manifold is on the passenger side.
Oil on the driver side towards the front is very common and not a problem as long as you are not having to top up, (no drips under the vehicle) It's from a rubber seal and is not a problem.
Unless you are topping up I wouldn't worry.
Inlet manifold is drivers side

From the post heading -OIL DEPOSIT- I thought that you had struck lucky and discovered an oil well - Texas Tea, Black Gold - especially handy with the price of fuel now!
I remember my engine had exactly the same as you described - it's not a problem.

The general view is that Bongo engines can be a bit 'oily', so you're not alone. I had a bit of this around the rocker cover (top of engine - alloy box lid that runs the length of it) on the passenger side and gunked it and washed it down so I would be able to spot (the source of) any fresh oil. I gently tightened the rocker cover nuts in that area. No oil since.
I also have oiliness on the drivers side, but this has turned out to be diesel leaking from the injector seals. Mine drips a bit onto the ground after a run. I'll probably get it done eventually. This oil is of course thinner, and spreads further with wind flowing over the engine as a result.

Hi again
With reference to my post regarding oil deposits.
I now have identified that it appears to be comimg from the bolts which attach the
inlet manifold. The two end bolts. The one nearest the front of the vehicle is worst.
Will it be a problem with the inlet manifold gasket ?
How serious is this.As I said before there is no change in my oil level.
Am i just worrying about nothing.

Don't worry..
However... if you are sure that's where the oil is coming from you could put a spanner on the bolts and "nip" them up. Doub't thats where it's from though.. More likly to be the seal at the front end and the rocker cover at back,
