More fault codes

Hi Folks, my Bongo recently had transmission trouble with it dropping in to safe mode after an hour or so with the hold light flashing, so after following instructions in the members area on how to extract the error codes, I popped along to a transmission specialist in Hove who gave me the following translation..

9 : Engine Coolant Temp
11 : Intake Air Temp
12 : Throttle position sensor
16 : EGR valve position Sensor
60 : Shift Solenoid A
61 : Shift Solenoid B

I thought this would be worth posting since some of these aren't on the fact sheet ;)

The specialist I saw also said several of my codes were probably old and erroneous and that I should briefly disconnect the battery to clear them, then

do a long drive until the fault re-appears, then re-check the codes. Sure enough the faults turns out to be just 60 and 61, still £400+ to fix tho :(

These look right for the Bongo, has anyone had other codes to confirm?

Very useful and thanks. £400 sounds bad but actually I reckon is good for what an autobox problem could cost. Some things really bite. I bought a Spacewagon for £7k and its ECU went within a year, just after I'd been made redundant too when cash was a worry. £600 (labour virtually none of that) - no short cuts, no make-good possible. It p*ssed me right off but no option but to do it. A great car ever after though so..... 8)

I recently had code 62 (overrunning clutch solenoid) come up regularly. The overunning clutch solenoid is in the solenoid pack in the transmission sump, which includes the shift solenoid. The solenoid pack was £125, and with labour and new fluid the total came to £297. So £400 seems a little steep.

Code 9 is very interesting -- I didn't know that there was a warning for engine temp. If the engine was running hot, going into safe mode might be a good thing. I noticed that when my bongo went into safe mode on the A11, scaring the hell out of us, the engine ran cooler at higher rpm and lower speed (I have a Mason gauge fitted, so I can see small changes in engine temp).

The solenoid pack is numbers 700 and 701 (they come attached). They go in the valve body (not numbered) shown above the pan in the diagram. You can see the solenoid pack in the top of the valve body in the diagram. It may not be that hard to change the solenoid pack at home, with the bongo up on ramps -- but I didn't have the courage to do it.

This thread is a god send, I have been agonising for months and trawling the internet to find more fault codes for the R4A-EL mazda box used on the bongo. Couldn't understand why the ones I was getting were not listed on the members fact sheet, maybe these can be added as well for completeness.

My faults/blink codes are exactly the same as the ones you have listed.

Problem confirmed, I just need to fine a way of getting hold of a solenoid pack from Automatic Choice UK, getting it from mazda will cost around 440 pounds, ouch.
