Radio wiring to leisure battery

As I have wired up my radio to a leisure battery it is always on and causing my battery to go flat. I was thinking of putting some kind of master switch in to it. Should it just be a case of wiring the red ACC wire from the back of the radio to a rocker switch. I am by no means an expert in these areas as you can see.

Thanks

I'm confused here :? Isn't there an on/off switch on your radio?

....plus if you isolate it from a battery altogether, won't it forget all your presets? :!:

There is but it still appears to be drawing power. It has an LCD display and couple lights that stay permanently on. Before when wired to the starter battery when the ignition was switched off the whole radio went off so no lights or LCD. I have removed the fuse for the radio and the leisure battery is working fine so guess it is the radio making it go flat.

It will always draw a minute amount of power to maintain the presets (as Muz says), but if you've got lights on, it must be wired up incorrectly. The easiest way is to reconnect it to it's original wiring and rewire the relevant fuse in the fuse box to run off the leisure battery.

I've fitted a split charge kit and leisure battery with the Radio run from the leisure battery which I presume what you have done - and the display on the Mazda supplied radio does indeed stay on - illuminated even with the radio switched off. The Ignition switch has no effect when wired this way. I do not expect the current drain to be a problem though, it can't take that much power - I would have thought it would run for months on 110Ah

Short of opening the radio up and altering where the display gets it's power internally (may be possible) If you want to be able turn the radio off as suggested fit a master switch in the radio supply from the leisure battery.

Even better - get a decent CD/Radio for appx £35 and use the ISO adaptor or hard wire it in. (I do think the Radio supplied is a but duff, esp with the frequency expander  )
