Don't belive the "blocked exaust" bit, though it could be the winter pack valve in the exaust stuck shut if you have that option fitted.
I would be much more worried about the lost coolant and where it's from. What was the level in the expansion tank when you checked ?
Do you have a switch low down with a picture of a engine on it. That switches a "block off" valve in the exaust system.
Keep us informed on the outcome.

there is not a winter pack fitted and no sign of second battery, ive run diesel vans for years and never heard of this.before it went i did feel the autobox hunting a bit and was going to check atf as soon as i stopped,AA man put his hand over exhaust and it didnt blow his hand away,so he thought it was back box( i have one and planned to fit on my time off this week) he opened up a split in tube behind b/box and still not enough pressure so he said it was blocked exhaust.

as to the coolant level hadn't moved till i undid the cap and it boiled up a bit but man said engine was running hot due to exhaust,no smell of exhaust in xtank ,the other issue was towing, because it would tick over he considered towing with a frame but no technical info on their system, ford ranger can be towed but only 29mph due to autobox,i declined and went for bevertail (struggled on the winch ) any ideas ?

I'd definitely request a full lift for transport when broken down bongomaan...You can't be too careful with the autobox.

i think the winterpack valve is towards the front of the bongo under the passenger seat, in front of the middle section.
when you turn on the winterpack pre warm switch does the revs go up?

note to myself...must remember to read all post properly
have you checked the air intake?, someone reported that they had similar problems to you, cutting out ect and turned out that a carrier bag had got into the air intake and sucked right in
