Hi There Bongonauts,
My roof is making a high pitched squealing noise when I drive over 50-60 MPH
the wind appears to be blowing into the outside of rooftent and it baloons inside the car. I am very new to the Bongo(1995 Ford Freda 2500 4wd automatic autoroof). I love the Van and have just returned from a holiday doing 1300 miles and it was great, but since it is not converted we have not slept in it yet. However back to the roof, The noise is unbearable from the roof. I have checked what I can, but not sure what I,m looking for, not very technically minded I,m afrraid. I hope someone can help otherwise I will have to sell her Can't stand the noise and my hubby is also very disappointed that we have this problem. Really dont want to let her go. The same goes for the Bongo!
Desperately hope someone can help

Go into user control panel on the top right of the screen you can add your location in you profile.
It sounds like your roof isn't locking down, do the beeps stop when you lower the roof? Is there anything jamming on the sliders or simply stopping the roof closing down fully? Are there any cracks in the roof? Sorry if this is covering stuff you've already checked, but start with the simple stuff first.

Hi Kirsty,
Thanks. No the beeper isn,t still going, so it appears the roof is seating. I will check the other items you listed Now, but I think they were checked.
Thanks Jim

Not sure where it is, but I'm assuming there's a switch that tells the bongo the roof is closed, I wonder if it has moved or something is hitting it & telling it it's closed when it isn't quite?

Hi Kirsty,
A switch not working properly sounds like the most likely problem, but I wouldn,t even know where to start looking and it,s getting a bit on the dark side to look now, so I will poke around and see what i can find in the morning. Thank you so much

Does it look as though the roof is seated down properly at the front? i.e. is there a gap however small?

May sound a daft question...are you sure the noise is coming from the roof?

Yes noise is definitely the roof, My other half was sitting in the middle seats with roof hatch open and the rooftent canvas was ballooning out with the wind/draught accompanied by this squealing high pitched noise where I assume the air was trapping. I will check the front of the roof in the morning for any slight gap it,s too dark now. Thank you for your response and help. I have a few things to check now in the morning. This is a great club such kind helpful people Thanks

Try unzipping the plastic roof tent and you will find it velcroes up. This also puts a bit less strain on the roof motors when opening.

Hi Jimmy, there used to be a bodge on one of the microswitches in the roof, where a piece of tinfoil would make an electrical connection,to fool the switch into thinking the roof was locked down, when in fact it wasn't....
Perhaps a previous owner was savvy to this, and bodged the switch to cover up a fault?
It certainly sounds as if yours isn't fully locking into place, yet the beeping stops as something with electrical continuity is tricking the microswitch.
I think there are two microswitches in the roof gutter jimmy, one is easily found (and accesible) the other, not so easy to get to.
