i have searched the site but not come up with this and my van is making a grinding noise. I found new pads on ebay yeaterday and the woman kindly agreed to end the auction, put it to buy it now and they have arrived. However martin in croydon who i would have used (great bongo bloke) has burnt his hand and cant work this week. kwik fit dont do fit only and i have taken off the front wheel and dont want to force off the bolts untill i double check with you fine people.
can someone please tell me very plainly what to do. i have the tools but i need my van back today as i need to go away tomorrow.

hi londonron
changing the front pads is a peice of cake and only takes about 20 mins per side
you have 2 bolts holding on your caliper undo them
take out old pads
take out anti squeelers
get some waterpump pliers or simular to push the 2 pistons back in
don't forget to take your brake fluid cap off first
put some copper grease on anti squeelers
insert new pads
its as easy as that
good luck

thats what i thought after a quick look on you tube. i cant get thte bolts undone so am soaking them in wd40 while i cook myself some lunch.
there are 4 bolts if i remember without going outside, 2 that hold the whole calliper assembly onto the car and 2 that hold the brakes onto the callipers (im guessing)
on all the other cars you undo the top or bottom bolt 21mill i think and swing the whole assembly clear of the wheel. then slide out and change. the smaller bolts are 17mill.
so would i be right in thinking i do the same with this. dont want to take off anything i dont need to.
you mention should you choose to accept it is to reply before my iceland frozen pizza cooks, the pizza will self destruct in about 11 minutes.

looking at my pic from a car i think my answer is actully to take of the 17mill bolts and leave the big 21mmill alone
just swing out the calliper,

As YBB says, take brake fluid reservoir cap off first and remember level will rise as you push pistons back. Maybe wrap a cloth round it in case of overspill (brake fluid strips paint and other stuff), also check level as you push piston back (I used a G-clamp with success for this). Before you push piston back, give it a clean as much as poss. to minimise pushing crud past the piston seal as it retracts as this could possibly damage the seal. Think thats right, no doubt someone else will comment if need be. Must do mine soon I think.

yes i did. it realy is simple. shall write again from memory.
jack up and remove wheel etc.
take off brake fluid cap on bonnet
there are 2 x 17 mill bolts near disk and 2 bigger ones
undo the 2 17mill ones, mine needed a good whack with a hammer on the spanner, note they are diff sizes, top is smaller?
this lets you pull out the unit. you can them remove the brake pads and also the 2 thin metal sheets;check which way they go and what order (but is simple)
the pistons that push against brake pads need to be pushed back as the new pads are thicker. either a g glamp or plumbers grips (what i used) they dont spring back and after you have pushed them back the new ones will slip in.
close brake cap,put wheel on and away you go.
really is a ten min job.
