hissing noise
I have taken the bongo away for the first time this weekend driving for about 12 hours in total. I began to notice a hissing/whistling sound developing when I increase the revs. The power level seemed ok and temperature seemed to be constant, Has anybody got any ideas?
Thanks
Andrew

Re: hissing noise
Hi Andrew, this sounds like a classic case of Number 1 manifold stud sheared off. Ckeck it out when you get chance.

Re: hissing noise
Thanks for that, I will have a search for related topics. Can I just ask if it is safe to use the Bongo until I get it sorted or could I do any further damage?
Re: hissing noise
not too much of a problem to use the Bongo, more annoying than anything else. But get her fixed at the first opportunity.

Re: hissing noise
Or, it could just be the turbo spooling up? Is it at it's most noticeable between 2250-2500 RPM andrew? And quite a faint noise? Or is it decidedly loud?...It was the reference to "hissing" that got me thinking....

Hi,
Doesn't the Number 1 manifold stud thing make more of a screech or squeal noise??
I thought i read that in another thread..

Re: hissing noise
Just had the bongo checked out. Seems it was a snapped bolt on the engine air inlet (sorry don’t know proper technical terms). It had sprayed oil up over the inside of the drivers seat but Wayne the mechanic reckons its all fixable and shouldn’t have caused any damage.
Re: hissing noise
And I suppose this means I still have the Number 1 manifold stud shearing off event to look forward too! - joy.

I couldn't work out where the hissing noise was coming from on mine.mikeonb4c wrote:Wow - not heard that one before. Glad it's all easily sortable
...So i had specialist help to sort it out!

Turned out the previous owner was into balloon modeling, a rouge Poodle was lodged under the back seat.
The offending animal was dispatched with a light sabre with only minor damage caused to the upholstery.

Re: hissing noise
I can also recommend this guy, should you have any performance issues with your vehicle..

...though, as a mobile under-sealer he's not that good!
