Bongo Fury

I have got myself a Voltage sensing relay TEC3M to setup a split charge relay. It has 6 inputs on it labelled as follows:

12v , 12v , 6 , 4 , 2 , 0v

Now presumably I wire up 1st one to the postive starter battery terminal and the 6th one labelled 0v to earth.

Do I then wire the 2nd 12v one to the leisure battery. What do the 6,4,2 inputs do?

Are they outputs for use with 6v, 4v, 2v leisure / battery to be charged options? No doubt someone else on here can confirm / deny or if you have a multimeter, nows the time to get it out and start taking diagnostic readings

I bought one of these to run my 100A Split Charge Relay. I wasn't impressed as the "adjuster" screw and contacts fell apart recently after only a few months so I dumped it. I should have bought the Willinton one. Have you not kept the instructions that should have come with it? If not I'll try and dig my copy out. IIRC 1 goes to starter battery live, 2 goes to terminal 86 on your SC Relay and 6 goes to earth. I would need to read the instructions to verify though.

So I wasn't quite right:
One of the 12v connectors to +ve on starting battery
No 2 to SCR
0v to earth

I've found these to be unreliable - especially if you run down the leisure battery and the relay tries to handle over 30 amps.

I fitted a couple to bongos and repalced them with a willinton kit, in fact, fitted 4 willinton kits now - no probs.

Sorry Max - I advised these relays early on in the forum - they did the job to a point but the HD willinton one is much better. IMO

I certainly can't disagree with that statement

I got one of the 'low amp' ones and its protected with 2 x 25 amp fuses in case a deep LB discharge causes high charging current to flow. I have a digital voltmeter on the dash (which I want anyway so I know how flat the LB is getting) and this tells me if the charging fuse has blown (no jump in voltage after starting shows VSR has not got charging current to the LB). I carry jump leads under the bonnet (always wise to have those anyway with an automatic) and - should I have a deeply discharged LB - use them to jump across from the main battery in order to charge the LB until it has recovered enough.

Sounds like hard work but is not at all. But if you've not already bought, then the Willinton one has to be the best bet.

Having used them, sold a couple (lost money etc etc) I would stick it in the bin.
If you really want to use it then use it to switch a high current relay, but in all honesty - as already mentioned, buy a relay from Martin (Willinton) and build your own system, or buy one of his wiring kits.
I think the problem with the tec3m is that it cant cope with daily useage which is effectively what you are asking it to do in a Bongo.
If you just want a leisure battery and to power your lights etc then I doubt you could save any money by making your own system - if you are incorporating a zig type system and full conversion then there are possible merits in just getting the relay and customising the system.

Sorry guys, I have to ask. Where can a willinton kit be purchased. Are towsure charging relays any good

me and bigdaddycain have the same ones as you vegian and so far (touch wood) we have had no problems whatsoever, mine and stes have been on for just under a year .

The Towsure one is the same as the unreliable ones.
