Bongo Fury

Hi, during a drive today I noticed that the gearbox would not change between the gears unless I lifeted the pressure of the pedal. This was a particular pain from 3 - 4th up hill and it resulted in the van overreving. I have checked the abf and it is clear and at the correct top up level. Is it possible that the clutches are slipping or has anyone had this problem before? If so what did you need doing and what was the damage?

did the hold light flash? or stay on?

the car is designed to go into the correct gear but I sometimes think it goes a little high on the revs uphill but accept it as thats the way it works, foot down means more revs and higher change

nope the hold light did not go on at all

it was approaching 4000 revs 3-4

If the clutches were slipping the oil would become dark and smell burnt - the clutches are made from compressed paper and they smell like burnt toast when "cooked" therewould also be a pronounced slipping if they were worn out.

I adjusted the TPS on mine to stop it hunting between gears on mine - info in the search facility.

Mine was doing this recently and when I floored the accellerator I couldn't get any more than 70mph out of it. I changed the fuel filter which was full of brown crud, probably from when I ran on biodiesel (although I changed the fuel filter 2 weeks after starting using biodiesel but maybe didn't do enough mileage to clean all the crud out of the system). However I think the real problem was that someone had placed bellybutton fluff in that small gauze filter under the banjo bolt on the fuel pump. Cleaned that out as well and my Bongo has never run as well.
I bet you have the same problem with fuel delivery Parnsi rather than anything to do with the gearbox.

yeah mine was doing the exact same thing - apparently theres a little electric unit that can be tuned fairly easily - mine was and now its as good as new.

You'll all think I've got a fuel filter fetish, but if you've read any of my posts you'll see the problems I had. I had to clean the small guaze filter about 10 times before it ran right, Anyway it started playing up slightly, one of the symptoms was it sounding lumpy on start up and not changing gear when it was supposed to. So I cleaned the small filter again yesterday and blocked the valve to the EGR, and It runs the best it's ever done. Cheers Tom

Fuel filter it is then. Is there a guide to how to do this on the site (I cannot change a plug let alone do van stuff)
