pipe from turbo to fuel pump broken

This morning was going to try to clean the filter in the fuel pump and nudged the short rubber hose from the pump to the turbo. It was so brittle it broke at the turbo end. Its too short to refit. Can anyone help by telling me where I can a replacement bit of hose and what I should ask for. Hoping to go to the Lakes tomorrow so would like to get it sorted asap
Thanks
Ron

Cripes Ron, wish I could help. Can you not effect a repair for now using something like a piece oof brass tubing as an internal sleeve, and a piece of material as a bandage. Use either superglue or 5 min araldite smeared on the brass sleeving before mating ends together. Wipe off excess araldite from the outside. Once set, wrap araldite smeared bandage in an overlapping spiral from a distance either side of the break. A few points:
* take care not to get araldite into the pipe, where it might end up being ingested by the system
* clean / degrease parts as thoroughly as poss. before glueing, and roughen pipe with wet and dry as much as poss. to promote a better (I wont say good!) bond.
* Use meths to remove araldite from you r hands before it sets
* Plan your journey to take you past motor factors where you might purchase replacement tubing in case the temp repair fails away from home. Pack essential tools (sharp Stanley knife etc.) too. Get RAC roadside repair to fit new tubing if it happens
Good luck
Mike

Thanks again Mike. My 72 yr old brain takes longer to assemble past experience - as the day progressed I remembered reading on the forum that the van can be driven ok without this tube, that its purpose is to improve performance. So I've been down to the factors and obtained a bit of rubber pipe of the correct internal diameter and 2 new clips and it is now fixed. But seeing the brittleness of this little pipe has caused me to consider replacing the coolant hoses iwth Flippas full set!

Glad you got it sorted. It sounds like the short pipe that goes from top of fuel pump to the elbow at the front of the inlet manifold. I think its only used to monitor the airflow to the manifold, as I have never seen any sign of fuel in there. The pipe on mine is also very brittle, but I don't think you need to worry that all your other hoses will be the same. I've just fitted some of Flippa's excellent hoses, but the 10 year old ones I took off were still perfectly serviceable. I believe they tend to perish if they have been allowed to dryout when the van has been stood for a while.

Thanks Simon. I am going off for a 2 week Scottish trip sometime in May (will Spring ever arrive) and my son and family are taking my Freda to France in Summer for a couple of weeks in the Pyrenees. It is one of those decisions that comes hard to a war time bred Yorkshireman but on balance I think we will all sleep happier with the hoses replaced. I've already fitted Haydn's coolant alarm and the Mason temp mod! The Freda is my only transport so another reason to be safe.

I'm thinking of buyng the hoses to carry as spares when I travel, but not (needlessly?) replacing ones that
appear to be sound. Still haven't got round to it though so I'm with the Haydn Insurance Company
Good news Ron that you fixed it no probs.

Mike - hmm thats a thought but where the hell would you store them, I'm already fighting off all the things I think would be handy to have with me!

That bit of pipe is important it is an additional fueling device on the pump dependant on turbo boost. Good it's sorted Ron - now enjoy the trip - might still be cold up here but the snow on the mountains is spectacular

As DWH says that pipe is what tells the injector pump the turbo is working and thus to inject enough extra fuel to use the extra air blown in by the turbo.
Without it you'd lose some BHP but probably gain a few MPG.
