I haven't used my Air Con, since we got it 4 years ago - My mechanic said it is empty - Do I need to refill it as I don't use it?

Cheers

Nick

You don't need to have it in there nick but for around £45 it's kinda handy for demisting the screen.

Also, as we're expecting a bumper summer :^o the glass house gets pretty warm on the road.

I'm not happy with the new formum software which has (yet again) dumped a detailed reply. In short, I find mine invaluable for demisting windscreens. Kwikfit were doing a reasonable no success no fee refill service. Cant think it mattters if you leave it bust. 8)

Just be aware nick, that the compressor can corrode on the inside through lack of use, it may be worth the 40 odd quid to get it re-gassed,as the next owner will knock you down more than the cost of a re-gas if the aircon isn't working...

If you do decide to get it refilled, use the aircon for at least haf an hour per month to keep the system clean, and purge the system of condensation (the main killer of most aircon systems).

If you haven't used it for 4 years, it's doubtful that you will be able to fill it. I would think that the seals with have dried out and be totally shot :( Worth trying Kwik Fit though, as they say they don't charge if they can't get it to work.

I've been trying to get my aircon re-gassed on the cheap with Kwik-Fit. On all three occasions at different sites in the area I have had the expected "Can't do it, we don't the equipment/software/fittings" My opinion is they generally don't have the interest as on all occasions the fitters were half way through a mid morning burger and the site of an import was just too tricky for them.

I have now gone to my regular garage who though likely charge more is at least interested in the work. Kwik-fit, forget it.

I'm just sitting here wondering how in the hell someone cannot use their air con for four years...four years I can't go 2 days without using mine and air con in any vehicle must be run at least once a fortnight to keep everything smooth and working properly, unfortunately I should think the thing is well and truly buggered by now and re gassing would be the kindest thing to do to it, i.e put it out of its misery. I certainly hope everything is A ok with it when you get it re gassed and can only hope the seals etc have not dried out totally and perished, one thing is for sure you will never sell it with a knackered air con. Good luck and fingers crossed and remember when you take it for re gassing for goodness sake don't tell them you haven't used it for four years.

I think my Yorkshire wife is the same as you David, can't get her to leave the heating on in the house- even when sub-zero!

Wish I could get the wife to turn the heating off. It's always to hot in my house.
