Roof not locking out

Before i bought my bongo from my brother he admitted doing something to the roof. He said that he tried closing it with sleeping bags in there and ever since the roof has never got up to the fullest extent. That is it goes up high, stops at the top and the beeping still carries on. I recently discovered though, that if i push up on the roof from the inside, the beeping stops and the roof is then locked. Is there any cure?
Is there anything to worry about? as in the roof coming down or the roof not locking when down.

Thanks
Tony

Think you will find some roofs do this in cold weather when the tent doesnt give quite so much,it should be no problem when warmer climes come.Apart from that I have no idea how to free it up apart from making sure the struts and mechanism are well lubricated.

Ah! Ours seems to do that occasionally — but it also seems to be made better if the battery has more charge. Probably doesn't help you, just a little observation.

try lowering & raising the last few inches a couple of times, usually cures it for me, think it's quite a common thing. If that doesn't start some inuendo I'll be surprised

...............and.....as long as the beeps stop when it's down it'll be locked - you'll usually hear a change in the motor's speed at the last stage, then the beep stops.

Ive found that mine keeps beeping now i have a roof rack on, i lower it a couple of inches then raise again ,usually does the trick ,or if i cannot be bothered i just push the roof up the last fraction to stop it beeping.

same here daveblue - I've a top box too and I actually give the roof a hand up all the way to save straining the motors

That's exactly what we do to cure this "problem".

leave the green "tent" bit unzipped and rolled up. I think you will find having this zipped closed creates some resistance to the motors.

Tony

I find that if I leave the engine running, it is the only way to get the beeping to stop, even though my battery is in really good condition. This may change now as I have fitted a roof rack.

A question or two for Dandy if I may. Do you have the full roof rack system, and what size box? I am worried about overloading the roof motors.
I purchased a quick release box so that I can take it off, but would it be safe to leave it on with the roof raised?

Regards

Tom

I made my own rack fron 2 sets of Thule bars I had and made up alloy spacers to put between the longitudinal bars and the threaded inserts in the roof. The box(es) are a Thule and a Halfrauds, depending how much stuff I have and how much light I want in the sunroof.

I just assist the roof with a push from inside if there's stuff in them

My roof doesn't always seem to lock out, but the beeping stops when you take the key out of the ignition  . The roof has withstood some serious winds in that state.

Mine requires a push to get the beeps to stop most of the time - though not so bad if it's being raised regularly. Lubricating the runners with white grease seems to help as well.
