Hi I have just purchased a Bongo and have noticed a few things that may be missing.First is there an air intake cowl supposed to be on the front of the air filter,if so where can I get one of these. Also the electric mirrors, when I press the switch to make them go in,only the left one does, the drivers one I have to do manually.Anyone know how I can fix this.Another thing I have found is the temperature gauge doen't seem to move even when I have been driving for a long time.I have read that this could be the sender under the drivers seat,is this correct? Any info would be much appreciated.Other than those faults a Mazda Bongo is a very good motor.

Hi Ed and Welcome.
Not being a techie,im not sure if im the right one to answer your questions, but ill try and help.
When your say is there a cowl on the air filter,do you mean under the bonnet. The air filter
is under the drivers seat, but there is an air intake under the bonnet,on the radiator top.
Sound like there is an electrical problem with the drivers morror. Some one here will advise you on what tests to do/shorting things to nail down the problem.
The temp guage stays on 11pm all the time ,or do you mean it doesnt move up at all.
Keep asking, all your answers will be on here from someone.

Welcome Ed,
As new Bongo owners we are "green" at this too. I have to say that I fold my mirrors manually as I find the noise from the motors embarrassing
There will be many helpful replies though - even if this isn't

PS - There is an engine saver alarm that connects to the temp gauge, those more technically able will elaborate on it, it does make the gauge move. Once I fitted mine I found that the temperature gauge actually moved faster than the fuel gauge

Hi Brian
I mean the air intake under the bonnet.I have seen a picture of one and there seems to be a cowl there. The temperature gauge does not move.It did when I first purchased the Bongo and then it stopped working for some reason.

Welcome steady1946
Air cowl - see if you can get one from a breaking Bongo. Bellhill Garage (I think they advertise on here) is said to be a regular source
Mirror- I had two of these go and I managed to repair them but they went again. Got lucky and waycar8 sold me 2 working ones off his w/o Bongo a while back. But overall I got used to non folding ones and I'm fully expecting my 'new' ones t go at some point. In my case, plastic pivots broke inside the mirrors causing the motors to keep running when extended as the mechanism was adrift. Almost better for them to be 'dead' than to have that happening. But again, try a breakers for a replacement
Temp gauge - maybe a poor earth on the sender unit. Its been discussed before I'm sure. Have a search on here for solutions. Also, don't forget to consider fitting low coolant alarm and possible Mason alarm to the temp gauge. All info on here if you Search
Good luck and enjoy the Bongo
Mike

Yes - that's the air inlet for your heater

Hi Ed, and welcome,
If your Bongo was serviced just before you got it ask if the garage 'Forgot' to refit your heater intake, happened to me and they 'Found' one. No harm running without it 'till you source one.
Regarding the temp gauge I would get this looked at as a matter of urgency as it could be hiding an overheating problem, if it seems to be running cold it could be the thermostat has been removed to further hide this.
Much cheaper to investigate and fix now.
Good luck.
