hi,
as i MAY have a camshaft problem,or hydraulic lifter issue with my v6,i`m starting to sound out some parts.can anyone give me a definitive answer as to whether a ford probe or mazda 929 engine will have the same camshaft/hydraulic tappets?i see that there`s a 2.5 v6 petrol engine listed for the mazda `mpv`,`99 onwards i think.are any of these a possible path down which i can go to get my bongo shipshape?
thankyou
jamie

Probe No - totally different engine.
929 2.5l V6s were the same engine.
Mazda dealer should be able to look up the part numbers to see if the parts are compatible.

The 626 used the "KL" 2.5 v6 engine, the bongo used the "J5-DE" 2.5 L v6 engine (DOHC 4 valves per cylinder), or the 2.0 litre v6 SOHC "JF" engine (12v).

To add further confusion, the probe was based on the mazda mx6 AND the 626, but used different engines depending on whether they were for the domestic market, or for the export market...

Japan got the "KL-ZE" (better engine) Europe and usa got the "KL-DE" (E.G.R.)

The 2.5 litre v6 version of the Mazda 929 shared the same engine as the 2.5 litre bongo, unfortunately, the bongo never got the 3.0 litre version as offered in the 929.

The biggest tradgedy was that the bongo somehow missed out in the jewel of mazdas crown of engines, the "KJ-ZEM" Which was a 2.2 litre DOHC V6 with a screw type supercharger!

The 2.5 litre V6 engine in the "MPV" was the "AJ" series engine, which shared the same block as ford's duratec V6,But missed out on the clever cosworth developed "butterfly valve" system cylinder head, where the engine is a four cylinder till it reached 3200RPM,then the other two cylinders kicked in for more performance.... Instead, the MPV got lumbered with the brilliant mondeo block, but the wheezy SOHC head.
