Bongo Fury

Hi new to the bongo world and due to not taking the advice on this web site, i may have a few probs to iron out. so its probably discussed elswhere so if you know where then please re direct me.
When I got my bongo she ran quiet and smooth, however after a good booting up to scotland over easter she has a squeel on start up which lasts for about a minute any ideas ? Ive heard that something called a stud on the exhaust being broken could be a cause but this noise goes away, so could it be a slipping belt what should I take a look at first.
I intentionally made the trip a wee bit on the heavey footed side so It may throw up some niggles, the vehicle ran beutifully, it was only about an hour after we got back and I nipped out for a pint of milk I got the noise.

Yes it could be sqealing drive belts. As a temporary measure try squirting some WD40 on them. If it stops the noise you know the cause. As a permanent fix you can get some special belt treatment stuff. Dunno the name, never used it myself.

Thanks for your input, i'll try th wd40, does an exhaust manifold squeel normally go quiet after a short time? or would it be continuous?

I suppose you could have a squeal from the manifold that goes away as it heats up and expands closeing any small gap...More likely belts I would think. Don't spray WD 40 near the back of the alternator or you might get a "woosh" of flame.

Our Bongo squeals when the engine is cold, when you rev the engine. When the engines hot, everything expands, the gap closes and the squeal goes away. On ours, it's the front manifold stud.

Now this is where I loose your faith as I ask the question.... which side do I open up, to best get at the belts, or is it both ?
Yup only had her a couple of weeks and havent even looked at her dip sticks yet how bad it that!

In a nutshell, yes.
The new battery should be more powerful than the one you remove and will need to be wired up differently. I think a 'search' on this will produce useful info about this.

If the stud is broken, you'll see either a hole or a broken stud - they usually snap flush with the head. There's also lots of info on the forum, about how to fix this problem, so a search will help you.

The stud that normally busts is the No 1 stud...this is the only stud you can see without dismantling things. Look under the passenger seat and you will see it (or not... if bust) near the top of the engine at the rear of the alternator...just in front of a metal heat shield.

Number 1 stud is visible just above the alternator...the others are concealed behind the manifold heat shield.
