Spotted this 50w / 12v lamp produced by Sealey Tools .Apparently used to detect ''leaks in cooling systems '' with use of fluorescent dye . Model VS602 with free special offer of a set of light enhancing specs .£39 incl vat
OK, a tad much for a home mechanic but do garages use them and do they work ?

they are used by air con specialists as the dye is added as standard when regassing air con systems.
i've never heard of it being used on engine coolant but may be wrong

Sealey advertise it specifically for testing cooling systems The above is a direct quote from their sales brochure. I presume that they envisage it being used as a 'there and then ' check when something has gone wrong - - but - - - if the dye could be left safely in the system and if it did not deteriorate over time then a quick once over with the light could alert the owner to a problem .No idea how practical this would be .
I am not an expert , just spotted a possible application for us - - - -
They will probably appear on Ebay after this posting as overpriced 'kits' and somone will clean up - - - hey ho
