How serious?

Hi all on this cold night. I've noticed a fuel/smoke kind of smell when driving along, worse when driving slowly and better if the A/C is on. A search of BF for possible causes has led me to feeling under the diesel pump and yes it is wet and dieselly smelling. So I think its probably a worn fuel pump seal. I'm not that mechanically minded and would prefer to find someone to do it in Bristol. My question is - is it still ok to drive about with the thing leaking? I'm assuming its been leaking for a while and will not suddenly go in a catastrophic manor, but any advice would be appreciated.

Hi James, i'd get it fixed ASAP...Those fumes could make you black out! Plus...diesel is really expensive

thanks bigdaddycain, I aim to get it looked at in the near future... and agree - don't want to waste any diesel unnecessarily. I guess if I need to drive it short distances I could leave the window open. the fumes are not too bad. Just annoying as I've only just got it (private sale)

Im not sure about Bristol but if you can get it to Bridgwater there is a diesel specialist there who did my Townace a few years ago

However there must be a specialist in your area any friendly garage should know of them.

cheers Rob. theres a guy in Bristol called Adam who works at ADS - I've chatted to him on the phone and he sounds like he knows a thing or two about Bongos and the diesel pump, so will probably take the van to him when I can
