hi,
i finally got my v6 petrol bongo registered over the weekend and collected it today.it`s been standing for around 10 months and sounds a bit `tappetty`.it also smells a bit smokey, although you can`t really see any smoke.i`m planning to do an oil/filter change, using wynn`s engine flush, before i drive it again.will this help quieten the tappets and stop it smelling smokey?any help will be gratefully received.
thankyou
jamie
p.s. will air/fuel filter/plugs change help too?
thanks

If it's stood for 10 months I'd change all the things you suggest. Oil change may well stop the tappet noise as they are hydraulic tappets and the smoking may well stop when the poor thing gets run a bit.

Hi,
Mine smelt a bit of radiator fluid but that soon cleared. Check the engine carefully for any oil leaks, including the spark plug areas. You will most likely find with some TLC and use it will soon get better.
Good luck and keep us posted.

i would'nt worry to much about smoke, prob condensation cold morns hanging around for a long time n all that, get driving it and i sure it'll wake up
I'd change everything
Let me know if you find a reasonably priced fuel filter hog.

The v6 motors are known to have soft valves also, and at high mileages will be smokey.. got lots of mazdas that use that v6 motor inc people carriers, and all get smokey.. important to ignore the manufacturers oil change interval of 15,000 km, this is way too long for this motor, change it at 10,000 or it'll be smokey by the time it gets to 160,000km +..

Hi,
Would it help the valves to have extra lubrication via a flashlube system then?
I had this put on when it was converted to LPG but I'm wondering if it would be an idea on the V6 anyway?
They are fairly cheap btw, you can pick them up for around £40.
Just a thought.

The valves can "gum up" if the wrong oil has been used in the past, standing around un-used for nearly a year won't help matters either,a good flush, then good quality oil/filter change and a good long blast down the road should help clear all the rubbish out...
I'd fit new plugs anyway as a precaution, and have the plug leads checked/replaced too.
I'd like to see that the oil had been changed BEFORE the bongo had been laid up,have you seen what dirty oil can do to journals/bearings if left in for a while?
