Stalling when hot

Hi all,
Anyone able to shed any light on this.
After driving for a while, when we come to stop for lights or anything, the bongo sometimes cuts out, and takes forever to start again. It is intermittent, but is turning our bongo into a nightmare. I noticed it feels lumpy before it cuts out, but if I put it into neutral it doesn't feel so bad, but I can't coast up to lights/roundabouts etc. in neutral.

I don't know of any bongo friendly garages around Mansfield or Nottinghamshire for that matter, so I feel totally lost with it.

Any ideas or advice much appreciated.

Thanks

Hi there, have you checked the autobox oil level/quality :?:

Could it be fuel starvation? have you checked the filters? Air and fuel also there is a drain in the fuel line that may need draining.

I cant see why atf could make it not restart?

Sounds like air in the fuel line...

Ours did this whilst fitting the veg conversion until I found the leak.
The fuel drains back to the tank and it can take an age to re fill the pump...

Good luck

I dunno cars, I ride bikes, but I'm gonna check the ATF tomorrow. I'll have a look at as many other things as I can while I'm in there.

I'll need to go buy one of those vacuum pumps to get the old ATF fluid out I guess, as it's probably needing changed.

Thanks all, sorry about the moaning , I'll report back if/when I find anything out.

As to some shed lighting, I hope to do this in the near future, I have to use a torch at the moment.

Stew -there are garages in Mansfield,Nottingham and Long Eaton in the "recommended garages" in the members section. Doesnt mean that they are Bongo experts but some member has had good service from them and asked for them to be included in the recommended garages. A competant mechanic should not have any difficulty with the Bongo as in my opinion the only thing "out of the norm" with the Bongo is the cooling system which requires great attention to detail if the cooling system is worked on in any way.

thanks, I spotted that. Didn't notice that fact sheet before.
I'm gonna check the atf etc. tomorrow, and take a ride out to a couple of those garages to check them out as well.

much appreciated

As many of the North West bunch who saw me at a recint meet will testify this sounds just like a leaky fuel pump..and the seals need replacing.

No probs with mine now...a fairly simple fix.

There is even a 'factsheet' posting on how to do it.

Unfortunately I've no idea how to post a link.

good luck

I was going to suggest looking for a leak at the pump too Harry, once the fuel filter had been replaced, and the "banjo" filter had been checked/cleaned.

I'm not so sure about the fault being with filtration, although it's not a bad idea to clean it out anyway. If the performance is there except idling the system can't be choked :?

Indeed, it could be umpteen things causing the problem, but lets crawl before we walk, and get the "first checks" out of the way...too many times have i seen fundamentals overlooked in the quest for that all important resolution to the problem...

quick update.

Changed the oil and oil filter, new air filter, greased all the sliding side door thingus , then went for a wee spin then checked the atf, which was right on low. Topped the atf up with a few glugs of some dextron 3 stuff, then went for a good fast run so I could simulate the conditions that caused the problems before.

No stalling when hot now, although I will hold fire on giving a hearty cheer until I've had a good solid hour on the motorway at 70 then have to stop, but worst case scenario, I've been kind to the bongo :)

More when I know more
