Bongo Fury

As above does anybody know what the toe in should be? Checked the fact sheet but it doesn't say what model the settings are for.

I have not seen any info but usually
a 4wd will toe out and 2wd toe in.

Had this sent to me recenrtl thought it might be of use

Which would you prefer to believe - the rewritten factsheet or the English version of the Japanese Factory Manual

When the manufacturer gives toe in linear measurements you will get a reasonable tolerance due to the overall diameter of the tyre - are you telling me you're going to measure it to 1.7mm over a diameter of 635mm accurately??

I'd go for the Factory Manual setting personally and set it midway between 1 and 7mm - 3.5mm toe in - mine have done around 10,000 miles at that setting and aren't scrubbed, but hey, what's a couple of tyres worth?

I'll come back with the answer in degrees tomorrow if you want to set in on turntables (which are more accurate for setting the toe out on turns)

I think it is taken from the manual Kirsty - but rewritten...........
the actual figure printed in the Workshop Manual is:

Standard Value -1 ~ 7mm

Now, whether that reads MINUS1 ~ 7mm, or - 1 ~7mm is up for debate

MINUS means toe OUT in geometry terms, PLUS denotes toe IN.............so it could be construed to be from MINUS 1mm to PLUS 7mm giving a total tolerance of 8mm making 3mm toe in the mid dimension - it's still more toe in than 1.7.

I'm changing my take on looking at the manual again that the tolerance is between 1mm toe out to 7mm toe in

Now, to add further interest to the debate - if the vans been lowered dramatically (40+ mm) then the camber angle will change and the toe value should be reset towards toe out because the change to negative camber will try to force the wheels to toe in more than usual.

So by having them set parallel it is within those parameters, but may be better aiming more toward 3mm toe in?

I now think I misread the manual thinking the dash sign was a break after the word "Value" and set mine to 3.5 (or the equivalent in degrees on the turntables). It's not going to make a huge difference in reality and thats why the tolerance is pretty big, the wishbone rubber bushes take up a lot of the tolerance as does the steering rack joints. I was just trying to get the point over that the 1.7 figure is wrong IMO
