Rear fog light

Don't know if this has been asked before, but is there any reason why the offside reversing light couldn't be re-wired and fitted with a red bulb to make a rear fog lamp
I've checked the The Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations 1989 and it states that the fog and stop lamp must be at least 100mm apart.

Is the revering light 100mm from the brake light
I can't check as I don't have my Bongo yet

This has been done by a few, so yes it can be done.
Have a chat with Simon Heaton.

Given the paltry light given out by my pair of reversing lamps, I'd hate to lose one of them!

I didn't know that but some cars don't seem to comply. I've seen lots where you can hardly tell that they're braking when the fog lamps are on.

Thats right john, the brakelights should flicker or something really when the rear fogs are on, at least you could differentiate between the two a little faster...
The technology is simple, and cheap, yank cars do it when you brake with the indicator on. (well, the cars with red indicators do at least)

In India (they drive on the left) i took a taxi once to Madurai.
We overtook a fuel tanker, as we approached the lorry indicated right. it scared the life out of me, i thought the tanker was turning!
However, they indicate to let the overtaker know its clear to pass..
They do it on blind bends too.
Sorry to detract from the subject..

I remember my dad used to indicate left when it was clear to pass when traversing steep inclines in his slow moving truck,(snake pass, cat & fiddle etc).
Whilst driving in france,i noticed the locals leave their indicator on for as long as they are planning to use the "fast lane" of the autoroute, this seemed a good idea to me,of course the brits didn't bother, they were too engrossed in hogging the lane no matter what speed they were travelling at...

No suprise there then...

Do you find the Belgians tail gait when in Europe, BDC?

I never got as far as belgium jay,in fact i have only driven in france twice,i found them to have better autoroute driving habits than ourselves , but the rest of the driving seemed to suck!

Thas a shame BDC.. I find myself in Germany & the Netherlands quite a bit and on the whole it's chilled out.
I just find the Belgium's a bit.. ruthless.

Driving in america is suprisingly laid back, despite what you see in the "cops" shows etc...

TV's quite adept at portraying the worst of human nature, i'd love to do the States.
