while doing routine oil/water level checks on our 2.5 d 4wd bongo i noticed a small pipe hanging loose on the right hand side of the engine under the drivers seat,it connects between the air intake pipe that runs around the back of the engine to the air filter and a small module attached to the engine block.
about half way up it has a small filter.
does this sound familiar to anybody and know its purpose.

Sounds like something to do with one of the little
vacuum valves that control the Exhaust gas recirculation
or speed up the engine when it's cold or you turn the
air con on.

will try to post a picture(just got to figure out how to do it).
from what i can figure out so far it appears to be involved in the egr valve system but not sure if it affects anything else.
raining now so time for a cuppa.

It's for the EGR system. It can be left disconnected but I'd repair the hole in the inlet pipe though

Hi
I dont want to be to finniky, and on a less important and different note, you could use a new set of mats. Your engine looks cleaner than they do

It is not only for EGR system. This is pipe with vacuum for 4 relay:
EGR, Cold start Idle up, aircon idle up, and another one

Where doe's actually fit, at the moment I can't remember seeing it on mine. Hope I haven't missed it out and it's causing my problems.

It connects to the EGR diaphragm Tom

Is it not the pipe that dumps the vacuum when all the
vacuum servos are off? ie if say the fast idle is on
when it is switched off the vacuum holding it on as
to be dumped somewhere and that is what your pipe does.
The little filter is to stop crap "techie word" being sucked
back up into the valves.

You may well be right Ralph. I was trying to work from memory (a dangerous thing to do these days) and thought it looked familiar.

If not the EGR diaphragm what does it connect to?
