Differential pressure.

When I was servicing the bongo today I noticed that when I remove the level plug from my diff (either one actually) I get a hiss of pressure. I noticed this last time as well, I think there is a release valve at the top of the housing, it seems to move around OK but not sure if it can become blocked or if you can take it apart, clean it or whatever. I have LSD at the rear, normal at the front, should I be worried?

My experience led me to believe you should not get pressure in a diff housing.
The last thing you want is to blow a seal (No Eskimo Jokes please !!!) and throw oil into rear a rear wheelarch area, covering brakes, etc.
Check out the breather. Its years since I have done one, but there used to be a gauze and sponge inside if my memory serves me well?

Mine hissed when I checked it too but I didn't think this was an issue but then again I know more about astro navigation than I do about vehicle mechanics

I need to find out how the valve works, can it be taken apart and if so how, anyone with any kind of diagram by any chance?

They usually are a press/screw in fit Winnie - it could be blocked with underseal :? A pair of pliers/vicegrips gently around the breather might take it out.

Part 26-060 here............

I've forgotten who Lushprojects is but thanks for making this facility available - just ace!

Cheers Dandy :D , it could very well be underseal although I was thinking in the Summer I might give it another coat  I will have a go a removing and cleaning it and let you all know how it goes, I assume the front Diff is similar?
