Need some new glowplugs - one failing and van shaking to bits on first startup of the day. :x Fitted this set about 14 months ago so don`t want to do it again in another 14 months - Found these on Ebay and was wondering if anyone has them fitted - Genesis Twin Coil Glowplugs - they are sold as an upgrade and are supposed to be better than standard plugs - Item # 120217310630. They are sold by someone I have bought off before with no problems. Thanks in advance for any replys. Ian. :)

Hello,
I bought these glow plugs about 4/5 months ago. No problems ____
apart from these plugs where shorter than the one's i took out, meaning that the glow plug track would not fit, So instead of returning them i fitted them, put the little nuts on, then fitted the glow plug track and used the old little nuts to secure the track. Works fine. Hope this helps!!

Hello

After getting through 2 sets of glowplugs in 2 years in spite of a new glowplug relay I ordered a set of these twin coil glowplugs but my 'Bongo friendly' garage refused to fit them. Said they would burn out within a month as they were the wrong voltage. Mazda recommend 11 volt plugs and these were 12 volt. Although my knowledge of electrics is not huge, I would have thought that there might have been problems if the voltages had been the other way round ie using 11 volt when 12 volt were specified. They thought that a solution might be to fit them without the relay, but I wasn't too sure about that.

Needless to say I now have a third set of Mazda plugs fitted at great expense and a set of twin coil plugs sitting on my desk!

Any comments gratefully received.

Graham

I could be wrong ( and often am) but AFAIK the glowplugs do just that .... they glow, so I dont know how twin coil helps? I take it they heat up quicker? To me twin coil must be made up of two thinner heated wires/Elements? which I would of thought if thinner they could break easier?
Loads of ?'s as I honestly don't know.

Having replaced the bongo's plugs myself, twice now the last time being today, and having only had the bongo since a year last February, I decided to go for NGK's. I did so, as I have only ever read good feedback about them on here. They only cost me £35.81 including VAT, from a motor factors. So we will see. Maybe see you all here again same time next year.

I keep reading about people replacing glowplugs. I have done vast mileages in diesel cars since my first diesel Golf in 1982, and never had to replace a glowplug. I suppose the most miles in one car was about 100k, but maybe over half a million miles in total, with never having a glowplug fail.

Glowplugs are meant to last far far longer than spark plugs on a petrol engine, surely?

What's going on here - I suppose veggie oil may need heating up more to fire, but the Bongo glowplug timer doesn't know you are running veg oil?

The first time the plugs were replaced, was well before finding out the benefits of burning veg oil. So I can not blame veg oil, just yet.

Lucky you Trevor - I've had to replace them on every diesel I've had (except my 04reg 1.9JTD Fiat)

They were all new or less than six months old when I bought them, other than a ten yr old landie and the seven yr old Bongo.

Does the frequency of use affect the glowplugs, we use our bongo everyday, never(yet) changed plugs, run on same ones for 5 years +

Ours is used almost everyday, and sometimes more than once a day.

Mine were all new as well (except one) - I guess it's just pot luck. The one that wasn't new was an old Pug 405 estate with 185,000 miles on the clock when I bought it at the local auction. I just needed an old banger to run rubble etc to the tip whilst I was building an home extension. This came up for sale, sounding dreadful and filling the auction room with smoke!!! I paid £5 for it (plus £30 auction charges), fitted new glow plugs and it ran like a sewing machine :D - even took it camping to the South of France.
