If you've just had a new face, the mileage will still be reading in kilometres.

If you had a new dial fitted over the top, then the odometer will still be in km. If the dial is the same, but a convertor chip has been fitted (needle goes up less & there will be a km sticker over the mph), then it will now read in miles, but would be km up to that point.

MINES THE SAME , new dials still reading km , just make sure for your mot records that they put km down and not mph

Well actually the distance travelled will be in km. The mileage must always be in, er, miles! But of course with a face replacement you can't see the mileage, only the kilometres travelled.

A face replacement gives you speed in mph, with the odometer reading in km.

A replacement speedo out of a UK sourced Mazda 626 will read in mph and miles, but the mileage on that could be anything, right or wrong.

A Chip conversion gives you mph and miles travelled, but will be showing the wrong distance travelled for ever, unless somebody winds back 80,000 kms to show 50,000 miles, and then it would be right in the future.

There is a fact sheet explaining all this in the members area.

My view is that a face replacement with a full UK and Japanese service history and auction sheet is the only way to guarantee the distance travelled, which must be in km. As soon as you have the odometer in miles, you can no longer guarantee the 'mileage'.

Get a 626 speedo. Alter the mileage to whatever reading you decide on then forget about it and enjoy driving the van

But remember if you keep it as it is, when the mot is due you must tell the tester that it records in kms or he will prob put miles down.
