Bongo Fury

Bongo had to be recovered by the RAC (good service), symptoms were:
Ran fine for 60 miles then felt like it misfired three times, still seemed to be running OK. After 5/6 miles I noticed a loss of power on any incline and it felt worse the more I put my foot down, after 20 miles severe loss of power and unable to rev past 2000 rpm. Pulled into service station tried to rev when stationary, still would not go more than 2000 and I noticed white smoke from exhaust. Mis-firing and running lumpy appears to be worse the more the accelerator is depressed.
New fuel filter fitted last Nov and no problems starting/running before.
Any suggestions on cause would be most welcome. (I suspect diesel pump or turbo problem but am hoping for fuel blockage)
Also does anyone know a Bongo friendly garage in North London?

Check nothing has covered or been sucked into the air intake under the bonnet - it's the black oval plastic tube next to the battery on your left side facing the engine bay.

Check your coolant level.
White smoke could be steam.

Starvation of air would result in black smoke.

Worth checking out "Banjo" in the search engine above? also loss of power has been found to be caused by a removal of a vacuum pipe? as seen here:-

Smoke, if you have a bongo with the winter pack (twin "start up" batteries) could be something to do with the flap on the exhaust stuck?

Have printed the relevent fact sheets, but feel it's more serious than any of your suggestions so far. (mainly because of the misfiring/lumpiness) but I'll keep you posted,

There's bound to be loads of suggestions for this kind of thing but one of them will be right.

Heres my go . . .

Is yours a winter pack twin battery Bongo, with the Engine Warmer switch? Check the switch isn't on or it could be just a sticky EGR valve. . . .???

It could be that the cambelt has jumped a tooth and put the timing out. I'd have that checked first before revving it any more.

If the timing is out, that can cause white smoke.

have'nt got dual battery and have checked the EGR, hopefully going into to garage tomorrow, thanks for all your suggestions, I'll put the diagnosis on here as soon as I get it.
