Bongo Fury

I have just had a Clarion Cd/MP3 fitted, rear speakers are brill but front speakers make sound distorted, considering new speakers at front, any recommendations, where to buy and who to fit.

hi jake i have 6& half inch speakers in front but to be honest they bit to big you want 6 inch and as for fitting why pay anybody to fit them when you could do them yourself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
all you need to do is take out old ones and take speaker out of the plastic housing then fit new ones into housing get some scotch locks and eh presto job done should take no more than a hour to do both

I also use an MP3 player but have had no problem with distortion. Often it depends on the bitrate your MP3 files have been encoded to.

320kb/s is very good but go much below 200 and you are already losing quality. Get down to 100kb/s and it does not matter one single bit how good your speakers are you will always have poor sound quality.

OH NO not scotch locks again. Inside the door they will corrode and within six months you'll have no speakers at all!

When you get your new speakers (I've just fitted Pioneer 6 inch TSG's) they will have wires with them. Connect the proper terminals to the speakers and crimp male Lucar or spade connectors to the other end. These will plug into the original Bongo wiring loom. Then seal the connection with plenty of insulating tape.

Scotch locks should only ever be used as an emergency repair and should be replaced as soon as possible as they corrode and cause poor resistance in vehicle wiring.

I have worked as an auto electrician for the past 15 years (and was a technician before that) and would advise that the best way to connect wires is by soldering. Crimp connectors can be used as an alternative.
