Bongo Fury

Yes, here we go, surprise, surprise, a leaking bongo problem.

I have just taken jolly old Mr Bongo in for a service and they found a coolant leak, they said, and I quote "on engine on o/s as a pipe that comes out of the engine, it is rusty and leaking". They can make one up but it will take a few days unless I can find out what this is and perhaps get one.

From the excellent diagrams sourced by maxheadroom http://tinyurl.com/2zdxza and another drawing from alphabetter, I thought that the hose on the o/s of the engine was connected to the water pump.

Can you help, confused of Somerset.

Is there a pictorial / drawing / re the entire coolant system, the sort of thing you would get in a Haynes manual. Showing every thing from the direction of water flow, the radiator to the collant pipes / thermostat / heater rads et.

Hi flippa, I reckon its 15-179 on the drawing. I will have a look at the Bongo tomorrow and try to confirm it.

Strange the chap at the garage says the pipe comes straight out of the engine, no mention of a flange/gasket or water pump.

Thats the stub/pipe that the top hose goes onto. Bell Hill may have one.

That pipe is aluminium alloy - are you sure it's not the pipe to the rear heater?

The rubber pipe from under the driver's seat from the engine block to the rear heater matrix has a habit of going just above the starter motor for some reason....this is the one that caused me grief TWICE.

Only had it for 19 days and leaking.

I expect your dealer will fix this for free, as judging by the mechanics description, the pipe's likely to have been 'rusty' when you bought it.

I have had a look today and it is as dandywarhol says, it is the hose to the rear heater. A tube is is pressed into the block and has rotted away. The garage guy reckons it want repairing ASAP (now) because it could go at any time. He may be able to find a tube the same size but will have to take it out first for a pattern. If he cannot then I am stumped as he cannot replace it. Bell Hill are having a look, they have never been asked for one of these before, I will ring them later to see what they have. If they cannot get one they will have to go to Mazda, this could take SIX weeks. A Southampton garage, about 60 miles away, they must have known about this when selling as there is a new hose clip holding the hose pipe on. I reckon they were unable to get one either, b******s for selling it as it was.

Its worth while all you guys checking yours (and the hose ) as it still in good condition and the tube cannot be seen as it is covered by the hose. The rust is on the bottom of the tube. You never know.

contacted them about the problem and the main man himself contacted me by phone at 7.30 in the evening, what amazing service. I wish I had bought a Bongo from them now, and in a couple of days a nice shining new pipe arrived in the post http://s264.photobucket.com/albums/ii18 ... t=Tube.jpg

and this is where it fits on the hose above the started motor, note the new clip, this is not a common problem, but it is worth while all you guys and galls having a check.

A nice set of flippa hoses were fitted at the same time, these are great, and again excellent fast delevery.

This all went very well, but now the bloody water pump has sprung a leak, hardly had time to drive Mr leaky anywhere. I am going to contact/write to the dealer again.
