Hi I have bought a Bongo M reg with an unknown fault on the roof. I put the car in park, hand brake on, engine running and press the open button, I get the beep beep and the light in the dash shows the roof up flashing, Nothing hapens. With the engine running I am strugling to hear if the motors are working or not. I have located the control box in the rear right hand pannel, there are 2 sets of plugs into the box, it seems that one plug sends power to the motors and the other plug ? they are all small wires may be used for controles but dont realy know. I have bought the wiring diagram CD and was wondering if I could power up the roof from the plug. The roof is tight down so I cant check if the motors are good or not. I just could do with some tips on how to get it up. As I bought the car with the problem I dont know if the roof was emergency lowered, we have tryed pushing the roof up but it is tight down. I have checked the switch behind the handbrake and is good. As I dont know what has papend in the past with the roof do they suffer from not working if you dont use it. Il leave it there for now please if you are a roof expert or had simalar experiance please help me. Thank you.

Try it with the engine off gaulter, that way you'll hear the motors.
I think the other plug is for the rear beeper but wouldn't swear to it.

How long ago did you buy it and who from. Are you able to speak with them and get the history? Dealer? Guarantees?

Should be something we can get to the bottom of - can't be that tricky, it'll just take time and probing. Hopefully fixed for camping season.

Good luck - keep us posted 8)

It sounds like the locking mechanism has jammed,Like dandy says, have a try with the engine off,see if you can hear the motors trying to lift the roof...Although, i suspect that if there is a fault in the locking mechanism, the system may be aware of this, and not operate the motors, to avoid straining them?...Just trying to think on my feet here, hopefully somebody else reading this has had a similar problem and solved it , and may comment?

Good luck.

hello Gaulter,

is it a bit rusty around the wheel arches too?

I'm guessing, but is it the one on ebay last week? If it is, I think he said he'd just had it serviced.

(ooops just read your message properly..... You tried all my suggestions!)

Elevating Roof Problem

I also have this problem. Exactly the same description.
Bit of a story with this one. Following a battery failure had a jump start after which my side lights and fog stopped working and was traced to a failed relay under the bonnet passenger side wing. Replacement supplied via member of this forum which sorted the problem. However, have just tried the elevating roof which bleeps, light on dash ok, as if it should be going up but no motors.

If anyone has resolved this issue I would be pleased to hear.

Regards

Anybody got any clues

Ive got it up!

Hi I managed to get it up by locating the motor wires in the RH rear and putting direct to a battery, I herd the motors work a bit so I reverced the wires to the battery and it worked for a bit, I did this several times and after about the 10th time it went up HURA! so i think it was just a little stiff and needed some working, I oiled the mechinisum and now is working good. I think it is a good idea to put the roof up once a week to keep everything moving.

I think getting it up on a regular basis should keep it working & stops it going mouldy too
