Correct Belt Tension?

Having replaced my water pump at the weekend, (thanks Luke)
I have tightened the alternator and aircon belts so they will just about allow you to twist them 90 degrees.
I will recheck them at the weekend – can anyone tell me the correct way to tension these?
Thanks

Adam

That sounds about right. I always used to do them so I could deflect the longest "run" about 0.5 inch.

Use a spring balance and apply a 10kg force at the longest run - the belt should deflect 8mm for a new belt. If it's to tight you run the risk of damaging the waterpump/alternator bearings - especially with 2 belts.

The a/c belt deflection is 6mm
